To achieve this mission, MAPS connects students to mentors and other career related learning experiences, offers free monthly writing workshops, and supports students taking rigorous Advanced Placement®* courses.

Small group mentoring
MAPS links industry professionals to small groups of students taking STEM classes. Mentors currently work with AP® students only. Mentors focus on:

  • Tutoring students-assisting students with rigorous STEM coursework
  • Challenging students-deeping student understanding by applying concepts to real world applications
  • Mentoring students-guiding students in planning for college and career

STEM Career Related Learning Experiences (CRLEs)
MAPS connects students and teachers to local STEM industry professionals. This provides businesses with a meaningful way to connect with education and to share their expertise. Students and teachers are provided with opportunities to get hands-on exposure to the use of STEM concepts in the business world. Some examples of CRLEs offered by MAPS include classroom guest speakers, company tours, job shadows, informational interviews, and internships.

Writing Workshops
Excellent written communication skills are a must in STEM careers. These monthly workshops lead by experts hone students writing with workshops that help students prepare a strong college admissions essay, learn persuasive writing techniques, and fine tune client communications and business writing.
