Senator Murray gets first-hand look at ESD 112 Youth Workforce Program
Senator Patty Murray visited Vancouver August 5 and got a first-hand look at how ESD 112's Youth Workforce Program is helping students gain job skills over the summer. Murray visited Southwest Washington Medical Center, one of the sites where students receive job training and earn a paycheck to boot. The Workforce Academies provide a summer job and hands-on supervised training for students in career fields such as health care, certified nursing assistants, construction, early learning, community action, and business. Programs in both the Longview and Vancouver areas provided workforce training opportunities to nearly 100 students this summer. In addition to rolling up their sleeves and learning first hand what these career paths entail, students also gained resume writing, interviewing, team building and financial literacy skills. Students in the program come from school districts throughout the region and are enrolled in ESD 112's Youth Workforce Program.
