ESD 112 holds pioneering anti-tobacco leadership summit
ESD 112’s Tobacco Prevention Resource Center (TPRC) held the first-ever interstate summit to explore effective ways of decreasing tobacco use in populations specifically targeted by the tobacco industry.
Experts from state and local agencies across the country were invited to come share their insights how to reduce the use of tobacco in low-income and low-education populations. Topics ranged from improving targeted anti-tobacco advertising to discussing quitting methods that worked.
In addition to members from both Washington and Oregon’s Tobacco Prevention and Control programs, representatives from agencies in California, Massachusetts, New Mexico and Wisconsin also came to discuss their research and share their findings.
“I would like to thank Washington Tobacco Prevention and Control Program and the Oregon Tobacco Prevention and Control Program for holding this summit and inviting us all together,” said Vicki Stauffer, Section Chief for the Wisconsin Tobacco Prevention and Control program. “It is important for us all to raise the awareness of disparities within populations with a low socioeconomic status and have a discussion to develop the next steps to address these disparities.”
