Unruly Americans and the Origins of the US Constitution

Woody Holton

Featured Speaker - Woody Holton
Associate Professor of History and American Studies at the University of Richmond

Dr. Woody Holton, Associate Professor of History and American Studies at the University of Richmond, challenged our thinking about the nation’s founding with this provocative session.  The program focused on themes developed in his highly regarded books, Unruly Americans and Forced Founders:  Indians, Debtors, Slaves and the Making of the American Revolution in Virginia.  Participants considered the Constitution as an economic document, debated its ratification, considered published complaints of the day, and compared two of Abigail Adams’ letters.
