Local legislators return to session with knowledge of issues facing local school districts during tough economic times

Local southwest Washington representatives discuss education priorities

When the state legislature resumes session January 12, representatives will be armed with important knowledge about challenges affecting local school districts, thanks to dialogue that took place during the Legislative Forum hosted by ESD 112. The forum brought local legislators and Southwest Washington superintendents together to discuss education priorities for the upcoming session.
 
At the December meeting, ESD 112 region superintendents gave presentations to southwest Washington representatives on budget-related topics ranging from I-732 and unfunded staff; budget effects on Special Education; challenges facing the implementation of CORE 24; and how the budget will affect transportation.
 
Following the presentations, legislators asked questions and talked about the challenging session ahead in regards to policy and budget issues.
 
The meeting was part of an ongoing dialogue between education leaders and legislators to put forth the most pressing issues that impact our region’s students and schools.
