Kalama and Evergreen schools receive Apple Award
Kalama and Evergreen schools received a $25,000 award for significant growth on the fourth grade WASL—and students will determine how to spend the money.
Kalama Elementary (Kalama School District) and Marrion Elementary (Evergreen School District) are among 10 districts statewide to receive the 2005 Apple Achievement Award Construction Achievement Grant from the State Board of Education. The award comes with a $25,000 grant to be spent on a capital project on or off campus.
The two schools were among ten selected from the state's 1,142 elementary schools because of their overall growth last year on the fourth grade WASL in the areas of reading, math, and writing. Both schools showed approximately 25% increase in overall scores.
The grants may be used for capital construction projects on school grounds or on other public property in the community, city, or county in which the school is located.
