Links program supports volunteer opportunities among schools, community-based organizations

Schools, community-based organizations and local government agencies across Southwest Washington are benefiting from Links, a program that helps connect volunteers and the programs that need their support.

Partner agencies develop the project, recruit the volunteer(s) and provide supervision. In turn, Links provides the opportunity to earn an Education Award ($1,000-$4,725) by enrolling as an AmeriCorps member, and completing a term of service.

Links projects directly address community needs in the areas of education, public safety, the environment and other human needs. Projects can be 300, 450, 675, 900 or 1700 hours in length and can take place over a couple of months or the course of a year.

Links members must be 17 or older and dedicate at least 25 hours per month to a cause that is important to them.

What sorts of programs are eligible for Links volunteers? Summer programs, after-school programs, government and educational programs, and more. Activities might include tutoring, mentoring, volunteer coordination, publicity, outreach, working with kids, outdoor education, case management, internships, medical programs (clinical hours), and service learning projects.

Do you have a project that's been stuck on the back burner for lack of time? Do you have lots of projects but not enough staff time to complete them? Do you have volunteers who serve more than 300 hours per year without compensation?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you may benefit from the support of Links.

More than 200 part-time volunteers serve local agencies through the Links program.
