Summer workshops planned to help with AYP, WASL communications
More changes are coming this year in how "adequate yearly progress" is calculated. OSPI is, for the first time, separating the announcement of WASL and AYP results. And many WASL-related changes are occurring, from an adjustment in the high school testing schedule to new procedures to allow parents to view their children's WASL test booklets. Find out more about all of these topics at one of OSPI's summer communications workshops.
OSPI has planned four FREE afternoon workshops in Wenatchee, Tacoma, Vancouver and Spokane. The workshops will be held on the pre-conference day of each OSPI Summer Institute, though you don't have to be registered for the Summer Institute to attend. If you're a school district official who is responsible for communicating with parents, media and other members of your community about your WASL and AYP results, you're encouraged to attend one of these sessions. They're prime opportunities to ask questions of OSPI staff and learn new information to help you prepare to tell your achievement story this summer and fall.
Here's the schedule:
June 21 - Wenatchee High School
August 1 - Tacoma Convention Center
August 8 - Skyview High School, Vancouver
August 15 - DoubleTree at the Convention Center, Spokane
All workshops will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. To register, visit https://www.k12.wa.us/Events/root/Calendar/EventCalendarMonth.aspx . If you have questions about the communications workshops, contact Shirley Skidmore at sskidmore@ospi.wednet.edu or Kim Schmanke at kschmanke@ospi.wednet.edu .
