ESD 112 joins countywide partnership to foster school to work connection

ESD 112 has been invited to become a member of the Clark County Skills Center, a consortium bringing expanded opportunities to students in high schools throughout Clark County.

The ESD's involvement will help increase educational options for students who access other already successful ESD programs such as Workforce Investment Act and alternative school programs. Additionally, the ESD will
help boost offerings including academics for students on career technical pathways.

Skills Center Director Dennis Kampe says the new partnership will serve students well. "I'm really excited about this partnership. I think it brings the strengths of the Skills Center and ESD 112 together to serve students in Southwest Washington school districts."

The new project will serve students who have dropped out of Southwest Washington high schools. Planning for the project, which officially begins in February 2006, is underway, with both technical and academic courses being offered.

The Skills Center has served students in Southwest Washington since 1983, bringing hands-on educational training to eight nine cooperative member school districts through programs such as Applied Medical Sciences, Automotive Technology, Construction Technology, Criminal Justice, Dental Assisting, Hotel Careers, Legal/Medical Office Applications, and Restaurant Management.

"ESD 112 is excited to be part of this opportunity to bolster post-high school options for its region's students, while helping support the economic development of Washington state," said Dr. Twyla Barnes, Superintendent, ESD 112.
