ESD 112 garners three awards from Washington School Public Relations Association

The Washington School Public Relations Association (WSPRA) has announced the winners of its annual electronic and publications contest. WSPRA is the state's largest professional organization for school public relations and communications practitioners. Among the winners were three entries from Southwest Washington's Educational Service District 112.

A record-number of entries-more than 100-was received in this year's contest. Entries were judged by industry experts outside of the association to provide chapter members with feedback on everything from newsletters and magazines to videos, photography and Web sites. The following ESD 112 staff members received recognition for their entries in this year's contest:

PRINT PUBLICATIONS

o Gail Spolar and Evelyn Hambleton for their work on "Education in Clark County," a brochure designed to help people learn more about education in Washington state and the individual districts in Clark County. The brochure is very popular with newcomers to the community and is distributed by local real estate agents and is used by the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce as part of its relocation materials.

o Nicole Hagerty and Heidi Barnes for their work on the "ESD Accreditation Process," a handbook for school districts as they prepared for the state accreditation process. The handbook outlines the new process that the nine ESDs in Washington state play in the accreditation process. The project was a partnership between all nine ESDs in Washington state and Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory. ESD 101 coordinated the effort to have the State Board of Education designate ESDs as the accrediting agency. ESD 112 staff coordinated the writing, design and layout of the manual. All ESDs gave input on content and materials which will be used statewide. Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory helped write the manual and shared the cost of printing.

ELECTRONIC PRODUCTIONS (VIDEO/AUDIO)

o Lori Simpson and Rose Yandell for "Rigor, Relevance, Relationships - Camas High School," a video designed to acquaint students, staff, families and community members with the new Camas High School. The video was produced on behalf of the Camas School District by ESD 112 and TV ETC.
