Battle Ground to offer new driver's education program

A driver's training program for Battle Ground and Prairie high school students will be offered this fall through the Educational Service District 112 Traffic Safety Cooperative.

The fall course is set to begin October 9 at Prairie High School and run Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3-5 p.m., with drives after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The five-week course costs $285.

"We are very excited about the opportunity we have to revive driver's training in the Battle Ground School District," said Al Aldridge, the certified course instructor and coordinator in Battle Ground. "We have a thorough classroom curriculum with driving experiences that help students develop excellent defensive driving skills," he added.

Parents can register their teens by calling Allison Hutchison, ESD 112, at (360) 750-7500, ext. 341 or by picking up an application in their school office. Students must be 15 years of age prior to the first class to be eligible for enrollment. Fifteen-year-old students can get a permit after the first class session.

Vancouver School District also offers traffic safety education through the ESD cooperative. They have scheduled fall classes at Columbia River and Hudson's Bay. Call Hutchison for more information about dates, times and registration.
