WA State Substance Abuse Awareness Prevention and Intervention
Audience:
Prevention/Intervention Specialists serve K-12 students in schools throughout the ESD 112 region, with an emphasis on secondary students. Their goal is to increase the educational success of students by building a protective environment, increasing the resiliency of students who are at risk of drug use, and decreasing student use of harmful substances in schools served.
Members:
All ESD 112 school districts.
Funding consists of a grant from OSPI which is a mix of federal and state dollars. Local districts matching dollars are also included.
Grant funds are specifically used to place Prevention/Intervention Specialists in schools to implement comprehensive student assistance programs that address problems associated with substance abuse and violence. Prevention / Intervention Specialists provide early alcohol and other drug prevention and intervention services to students and their families; assist in referrals to treatment and help students transition back to school who have had problems of alcohol and other drug abuses.
