Regional High School Art Show features talented young artists

More than 100 area high school students from 20 different high schools submitted their best works of art to compete in the 35th Annual Superintendent's Regional High School Art Show. The entries are on display through March 14 at Educational Service District 112, 2500 NE 65th Avenue, Vancouver.
Artists were recognized at an Awards Reception February 21.
Eleven pieces were selected as Regional Winners to compete against entries from around Washington in the Annual State Superintendent of Public Instruction's Art Show in Olympia in April.
ESD 112 receives grant to serve at-risk youth (full story)
ESD 112 is one of 15 recipients of a $194,000 state grant entitled, “Building Bridges Dropout Prevention, Intervention and Retrieval”. Through the grant, ESD 112 will partner with Clark County middle and high schools to develop a network to increase collaboration countywide.
The grant seeks to promote partnerships among schools, families, and communities to build a comprehensive dropout prevention, intervention and retrieval system. Targeted student populations to be identified include youth in foster care, the juvenile justice system, special education and youth who have dropped out of school.
Tobacco grant aims to help curb tobacco use among Kelso High School students

A grant from the Washington State Department of Health Tobacco Prevention and Control Program will allow Kelso High School, in partnership with ESD 112, to update its policies addressing tobacco use on school grounds and to educate students and staff about the changes. The purpose of the grant is to curb tobacco use among high school students by increasing awareness and enforcement of tobacco-free school policies.
