Birth to 3 years old is the most crucial time in your child’s brain development.

About Early Intervention

Birth to Three Early Intervention

ESD112 serves families in the school districts in Clark, Klickitat, Pacific and Skamania counties.

With more than 20 years of experience serving children and families, ESD 112 has built trusted partnerships with parents and families to support their child’s needs. The partnerships created between the family and interventionists are valued. This relationship maximizes the child’s development and potential throughout his/her life. Services occur in natural environments (that is, where the child lives, learns, and plays). This intervention embraces the entire family.

Parent involvement is a core value of our program as we believe you are a vital part of your child’s educational team.

We believe that parents and caregivers know their children best. It is our goal to work collaboratively with parents and caregivers to share ideas, strategies and information about your child’s development.

Services

Services Provided

We provide our services in the child’s natural environment, including:

  • The home
  • Childcare
  • The community, or
  • Other immediate environments natural to the child and family

Focusing on the child’s abilities within these familiar environments provides more opportunities for practice and generalization of skills, and involves parents as the primary caregivers.

Early Intervention team members may include:

  • Early Intervention Specialists
  • Early Intervention Educators
  • Speech Language Pathologists (SLP)
  • Occupational Therapists (OT) and Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants (COTA)
  • Physical Therapists (PT) and Physical Therapist Assistants (PTA)

The initial developmental screening is completed by a Family Resources Coordinator (FRC) on the Early Support for Infants and Toddlers team. Once screened, infants and toddlers may be referred to Early Intervention services if it is shown that the child would benefit from additional support.

Once families choose ESD 112 as their Early Intervention Service Provider, the child’s eligibility for intervention and Individualize Family Service Plan (IFSP) needs is determined through an in-home evaluation. A team of qualified professionals work in partnership with parents to design and implement a program that is individual to each child and family. Parental concerns and ideas are primary to the program development and implementation.

“Our lives have changed because of the Early Childhood Intervention program. The staff took the time and effort that was needed to build a trusting relationship with our family. They modeled the activities that we were to practice, making sure we felt comfortable and supported every step of the way. Because of this program my son is now walking on his own without his leg braces. He has grown into an independent and confident two and a half year old. This program gave us the extra support and help that we needed so he could move forward in his development.”
