Dear Risk Cooperative Member:
Many of you may have seen in the news a new TikTok challenge circulating the United States. The challenge originally called for students to skip school on Friday, December 17th, and has evolved into threats of school violence.
These threats so far are not specific and seem to span all states. We advise districts to connect with their local law enforcement, increase school security, and alert staff to be especially vigilant. If you are aware of any students participating in the challenge, we recommend you follow district threat assessment procedures to evaluate on a case-by-case basis.

This situation serves as a good example of why it is important to avoid sharing posts online that refer to school safety threats. Even if they are not credible threats, they can cause a great deal of stress and anxiety for students, families, and staff. We ask families to monitor their children’s social media activity and speak with them about proper behavior online.
