THREAT ASSESSMENT

Training

Register now for the next Threat Assessment training: April 26, 8:30–11:30am, ESD 112 conference center. All administrators, principals, and school counselors are encouraged to attend, and any interested school staff are welcome too! Three CEUs are offered. You can find the training in pdEnroller. If you would like to schedule a threat assessment training for your district, or even just your building, please contact us. We would love to do that for you! Best practice means at least one member of staff in each building is trained in threat assessment.

If you have a situation in which you are uncertain if a threat assessment is indicated, or you just want to talk through a concern you’re having with a student, we are happy to help you!

Spotlight on Crime Prevention

Through Environmental Design (CPTED)

Welcoming school spaces are natural crime deterrents. CPTED principles offer strategies schools can easily adopt to reduce unwanted behaviors – and increase prosocial behavior. Learn more at CDC Youth Violence Prevention or sign up for the Assessing Your School Campus for Safety workshop on pdEnroller.

Corina is a certified CPTED practitioner through Washington State’s Crime Prevention Association. Schedule a physical site assessment for your school this spring.

Join the regional effort by adopting Standard Response Protocol for your district.

On February 7, emergency responders and school district administrators initiated a crucial effort to standardize terminology and procedures for common emergency actions such as lockdown, shelter, and evacuation. Our goal is to ensure collective understanding to prevent tragedies similar to the one in Uvalde.

Recognizing Our School Counselors

National School Counseling Week is the first full week of February each year. The American School Counselor Association has designated the 2024 theme School Counseling: Standards-Based, Student-Focused. ESD 112 extends its appreciation for each and every school counselor in our region. Your support is vital for all students. Download materials to recognize your school counselor(s) here!

First Approach Skills Training (FAST)

UW Forefront in partnership with Seattle Children’s Hospital has been releasing a series of webinars outlining FAST skills. Workshops occur on the fourth Tuesday of each month through May. Registration is still available for upcoming sessions. Eventually, all sessions will be recorded and available to watch on-demand on the Forefront website.

Please consider share with staff or caregivers who may want some skills related to Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, Challenging Behavior, Sleep, and more.

Meet our Behavioral Health Supports

In addition to working with our Behavioral Health Navigator, we also have some county-specific supports who are engaging in this work and may be available to support some districts.

In this role, she facilitates monthly meetings of school leaders and participates in events and planning sessions with local community partners. Contact Rita
  • Katie Rixon collaborates with Rita on the post-intervention services among schools within Klickitat and Skamania counties. Specifically, she is working with school districts to identify and train their crisis response teams while coordinating SMART services in these districts. Contact Katie
  • Karen Scott serves as a Behavioral Health Advocate, supporting ESSER schools throughout our region. She also provides suicide prevention trainings, collaboration with schools and school districts in supports of SMART teams and crisis plans. Contact Karen
