ESD 112’s Student Transition Educational Program Services (STEPS) celebrated the achievements of six 2025 STEPS graduates at a meaningful ceremony on June 13. This milestone marked the culmination of years of dedicated learning and growth for students with disabilities who demonstrated resilience and determination.

“This graduation celebrates the extraordinary personal journeys of these remarkable young adults,” said Tim Merlino, ESD 112 Superintendent. “Each graduate has shown us what’s possible when determination meets dedicated support, and their achievements inspire our staff and our entire community.”

STEPS serves as a vital bridge for 18-22-year-olds with disabilities, providing comprehensive support as they transition from high school to independence. The program focuses on workforce preparation, continuing education pathways, and other essential skills that build the foundation for lifelong success.

The graduation ceremony, held at the STEPS facility in Longview, featured presentations from each of the graduates. These moving reflections generated applause, tears, and laughter alike. Students had not only overcome significant barriers but had emerged stronger, happier, more confident, and more capable. Their stories highlighted personal growth, meaningful friendships, valuable job skills, and deep gratitude for the dedicated teachers and staff who believed in their potential.

Each student stood as a powerful example of resilience, growth, and the life-changing impact of education that meets students where they are and empowers them to reach new heights.

“STEPS gave me the foundational skills to understand what it takes to be successful and independent in life,” said Daniel Lambert, guest speaker and 2024 STEPS graduate, who shared opening remarks. “The staff at STEPS has encouraged me to keep striving toward my interests and goals and to not let my disability define me.”

As the six graduates, Jay Dee, Kian, Kellen, Elizabeth, Adam W., and Adam V., prepare to embark on their next adventures, they carry with them not just the skills they’ve learned but also the confidence that comes from a community that believed in their potential. The STEPS program continues to prove that with the right support, dedication, and community partnership, every student can achieve their goals.
