In October, Whitson Elementary in the White Salmon Valley School District celebrated its first Disability History Month with sensory-safe assemblies, lessons on disability rights, and a beautiful moment when 4th grader Silus stood before his entire school as the Cub mascot, using his AAC device to communicate over the microphone.
The gym was transformed into a space where he felt comfortable enough to advocate for himself, request the microphone, and use his natural voice in front of his peers.
