What is Internal Network Support Services?

ESD 112’s Internal Network Support services, also referred to as Managed Internal Broadband Services (MIBS) by E-Rate, help school districts plan, set up, and maintain secure, high-quality network environments. Through this service, we deliver standardized network architecture, cybersecurity safeguards, and professional oversight to ensure long-term reliability and alignment with best practices.

Internal Network Support Services combines both tools and practical expertise to provide reliable network environments that support modern learning, operational efficiency, and funding compliance.

Internal Network Support Services (MIBS) was developed to help districts:

  • Deploy and operate secure, high-performing broadband infrastructure
  • Comply with federal E-Rate funding and cybersecurity standards
  • Eliminate inconsistencies in network setup and documentation
  • Reduce the complexity of vendor relationships and network operations

Our Services

These services are designed to comply with E-Rate Category 2 funding rules, support long-term operations, shift from reactive repairs to proactive performance, and ensure reliable connectivity for digital learning.

Services Include:

  • Firewall, Switching, and Wireless Configuration: End-to-end support for secure and reliable connectivity.
  • Cybersecurity Management: Proactive network protection delivered through the District’s firewall.
  • Monitoring and Compliance: Ongoing network performance oversight to meet regulatory and district-specific requirements.
  • Network Design & Documentation: Standardized infrastructure design and detailed documentation for sustainability and consistency.
  • Vendor Management: Coordination with equipment and service providers to streamline procurement and deployment.

This Service Helps Districts Solve:

  • Complex, evolving network engineering challenges
  • Growing cybersecurity risks and compliance obligations
  • E-Rate Category 2 deployment and lifecycle management
  • Variability in network configuration and operational standards across sites

Requirements

Requirements

Internal Network Support Services (MIBS) is available to districts through E-Rate Category 2 funding. Equipment is funded through E-Rate, with ESD 112 managing the deployment and ongoing operation of the equipment. In the future, a leasing option may be available, allowing ESD 112 to fully manage equipment on behalf of participating school districts.

To participate, districts must indicate their request for MIBS services on FCC Form 470 and include a list of covered equipment.

On May 30, aspiring educators from across Washington gathered at the ESD 112 Conference Center for ESD-U’s annual Capstone Presentations Event, a culminating experience showcasing the knowledge, growth, and professional expertise candidates developed throughout the program’s intensive teacher preparation.

Candidates delivered presentations to peers, faculty members, advisory board representatives, ESD 112 administrators and staff, and attended sessions led by fellow candidates, offering constructive feedback.
