More than 300 residents across Clark and Cowlitz counties safely disposed of 1,077 pounds of unwanted medications during a regional Drug Take-Back event held on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
The free, drive-thru disposal event was held at six locations, including police departments in Battle Ground, La Center, Ridgefield and Washougal, Walgreens in Longview and Walmart in Castle Rock. Community members were encouraged to bring prescription and over-the-counter medications, along with vape pens and e-cigarettes (with batteries removed), for safe disposal.
The biannual event, organized by local prevention coalitions, law enforcement, and public health partners, offers a safe, secure, and environmentally friendly way for residents to dispose of unused medications and prevent misuse before it begins.
“This event shows what’s possible when a community comes together around prevention,” said Mandy Feeks, Community Prevention Project Coordinator at ESD 112. “By safely disposing of unused medications, participants took meaningful steps to protect their families and prevent misuse before it starts.”
All medications collected were securely transported and incinerated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, ensuring they are kept out of landfills and local waterways.
The Impact:
- 1,077 pounds of unused medications collected
- 300+ residents participated
- 6 collection sites across two counties
- Prevention of misuse, poisonings, and environmental contamination
Events are made possible through funding from the Clark County Opioid Abatement Council and the Washington State Health Care Authority Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery.
