Three students from school districts in the ESD 112 region were recognized at the 48th Annual Superintendent’s Art Show on Thursday, May 20, 2021. The State Art Show was held virtually for the second year in a row, and showcased award winners from across the state who had already placed highly at their regional ESD Art Shows, as well as several student art performances.
Out of the eight winning artworks from the ESD 112 Art Show, the following three were selected for awards at the state level:
Amie Makela, “It Devours,” Jurors’ Choice Award
Ridgefield High School (Teacher: Tamara Hoodenpyl), Ridgefield School District
Audrey Moehring, “Geometry,” Jurors’ Choice Award
Union High School (Teacher: Sean Morrison), Evergreen Public Schools
Tyler McKinley, “Change Sings,” WSSDA Award
Kelso High School (Teacher: T.J. Frey), Kelso School District
The pieces selected for Jurors’ Choice Awards will be purchased by OSPI and displayed at their office in Olympia. WSSDA will also purchase and display the artwork they selected. Each student whose artwork was selected will receive $200.
ESD 112 acknowledges and honors the traditional lands of the Cowlitz and Chinook Tribes, Lower Columbia Peoples, Shoalwater Bay Tribe and the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation, on which our school districts reside in what is now Southwest Washington. We pay respect to the elders and caretakers that have stewarded these lands throughout generations and that are still here today.
