Preschool

About Preschool

The preschool program is designed to meet the developmental needs of the whole child and the curriculum is aligned with our state’s early learning standards – the Washington State Early Learning and Development Guidelines. Our programs provide developmental and individualized instruction for children, ages three to five-years. The preschool classrooms promote active, play-based learning for children, building on their strengths and interests, while helping them learn new skills.

Preschool Curriculum

Young children learn and gain the most information when their preschool experience is:

  • Hands-on: exploratory, play-based learning involving all of their senses
  • Developmental: a sequence of skills that follow a predictable order and build upon previous learning and skills
  • Real: children learn about things through the interactions with real objects and experiences
  • Relevant: children learn best when lessons are important and meaningful to them and their lives–while respecting cultural and family differences

We focus on six basic areas of early childhood development:

  1. Social/emotional development: learning to cooperate, share take turns and express emotions.
  2. Language development: learning to listen to others and to use language to communicate.
  3. Small motor development: small muscle groups of the hands involved in coloring, writing, stringing beads, cutting and turning pages.
  4. Conceptual development: concepts such as same and different, colors, sizes, shapes, and introduction to numbers and letters.
  5. Large muscle development: large groups of muscles involved in running, skipping, swinging and jumping.
  6. Self help skills: learning to be independent, clean up, button and zip.

Preschool Hours:

8:15 am – 2:15 pm

Our goal is to encourage children to explore, to wonder, to imagine, to experiment with language and materials, to play and to develop a lifelong love of learning.
