About the Regional Improvement Initiative
The Regional Improvement Initiative brings educators, school and district leaders, and regional partners together to strengthen teaching and learning across our region. This multi-year effort begins with mathematics, with a focus on building shared instructional practices, stronger leadership and systems that support continuous improvement.
The initiative focuses on three key groups:

Students: Create learning experiences that emphasize sensemaking and help students develop confidence in their abilities.

Teachers: Build a shared vision and sustained support for ambitious, equitable instructional practices.
- 3
Leaders: Strengthen the systems and leadership practices needed to create coherence, sustain improvement and build collective capacity.

Mathematics Focus
Mathematics is the Regional Improvement Initiative’s first priority area. Across our region, we lack a shared vision and coherent system for high-quality mathematics teaching and learning. As a result, beliefs, instructional practices, leadership actions, and improvement efforts can vary widely, contributing to fragmented implementation and inequitable student experiences.
Our goal is not simply to improve achievement. We are working toward lasting change in how students experience mathematics, how educators learn and improve together, and how schools and districts build systems that support continuous improvement.
We want every student to experience mathematics as a place of curiosity, challenge, belonging, and possibility. Through collective leadership and continuous learning, we are creating the conditions for students to build confidence, reason deeply, and see themselves as capable mathematicians.
